From North to South:
The path of energy
“I started looking at Kinomichi Brasil's Instagram and realized how many trips Chris makes to so many places teaching Kinomichi in Brazil and South America. I realized that if it weren't for her doing this work here, these territories wouldn't know this practice. I thought: we have to document this!”
– Mariana Piza, a Kinomichi practitioner since 2018 and director of the short documentary

History
Kinomichi arrived in Brazil in 2004, brought by Christiana Cavalcanti and Victor Labouret, both disciples of Master Noro since 1990.
This non-combat martial art combines the Japanese tradition of Aikido with Western notions of movement awareness and lightness. Created by Master Noro, a disciple of the founder of Aikido, Master Ueshiba, Kinomichi unites:
✣ The structure and energy of the martial art tradition
✣ The complicity and harmony of dance
✣ The bodily respect of anti-gymnastics
✣ Japanese spirituality
✣ And much more: the smile!
Journalist and Kinomichi practitioner Mariana Piza, through her instructor Christiana Cavalcanti, proposed that Kiia - the International Association of Kinomichi Instructors - document this process of Kinomichi expansion through the trips Christiana makes to spread the practice in South America. The video will last between 20 and 30 minutes, will be subtitled in English, French and Spanish and can be watched on Youtube.
The project was awarded €3,090 (three thousand and ninety euros), which allowed us to go to Argentina and Uruguay to record the workshops. And also to document the spaces in these countries that already offer Kinomichi classes under her guidance.
Part of this work can already be seen in the movie below:

We have a lot of work ahead of us!
We still hope to:
🎥. Recording at Dojomar in Serra Grande-BA - July 14-18, 2025
🎥. Record in Recife-PE in Christiana's hometown
🎥. Recording in Brasília-DF
🎥. Recording at the Espaço Nova Dança Dojo in São Paulo-SP
🎥. Recording in Rio de Janeiro-RJ during the 18th Kinomichi Intensive

Budget
Brazil is a giant country!
At each location, we have to pay for airfare, accommodation and meals for Mariana to record the workshops. In addition to the costs of recording and editing the material.
Editing requires hours of concentration to find the best images among many hours of recording.
Mariana is making this film alone, capturing images, audio, directing, scriptwriting and editing. But it will still be necessary to hire another professional to finish the film, refining the color and sound.
To cover the entire budget,
we're counting on your help!

From North to South: The Road to Energy
by Christiana Cavalcanti
This project aims to tell us a little about the life and work that this Kinomichi collective has been doing throughout South America, how it began and how it has been sowing its seeds wherever it goes.
Kinomichi is in a growing movement and how important is that?
The importance of the dimension of what moves, strengthens, grows and spreads. Kinomichi invites you to enter a spiral and gives you the opportunity to be present.
The body wants to express health, joy, emotion, the simple desire to grow and continue evolving, transcending, transforming. A desire for continuity, action and many encounters.
What is health and creativity?
We are building spaces for practicing encounters, planting and harvesting food. At every moment of this work, we seek to recover and create possibilities for living while respecting the different levels of each person. With quality and energy we take care of the base, the feet, the steps we take with body awareness to give freedom to the flight and achievements of each being in life.
We are emphasizing the importance of body health. Being and being smart, valuing each other's health, with a smile, wholeness and creativity that are fundamental to human development. The importance of these records for this global moment is immeasurable. Believing in small tribes, in the importance of an art in which earth and sky connect in a poetic way.
